Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO)
Simply put, Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO), is exactly what the name implies... there are too many bacteria in the small intestine. The bacteria, which should be primarily found in the Large Intestine, have managed to colonize the small intestine and make their way towards the stomach. In fact, it has ben shown in research that the condition Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is caused by SIBO in up to 84% of cases.
Common symptoms of SIBO include:
- Gas and Bloating
- Abdominal Pain
- IBS type symptoms, including Diarrhea and Constipation or alternating between the two
- Heartburn and Nausea
If you have had a Concussion or Traumatic Brain Injury in the past, suffer from excessive amounts of stress, it is absolutely necessary to get tested and begin treatment if necessary based on the results.
Testing for SIBO is simple and requires no needles. It is a simple breath test conducted at home. Following testing, treatment may provide relief in as little as 2-4 weeks. Contact Dr. Spletzer for more details.
